Slides from a conference presentation given as part of a panel on ethnic literature for the CAAP (Chinese American Association for Poetry and Poetics) conference at China Central Normal University.

Comments

Part of a larger Fulbright project aimed at expanding the English language canon being taught at Chinese universities to include postcolonial Anglophone authors, this close-reading of Walcott's famous poem on the awakening of the Jamaican independence movement proved a useful and concrete way to talk about the layered temporalities alive in many postcolonial texts.
